OK-you got me! I'm stitching up some sample butterflies today and will post the results to the flickr pool when done. thanks for teaching us this technique!

wow- this was harder than i thought it would be! the first one i did was on 8mm china silk. absolutely no resist! so i thought, heavier fabric is needed (or perhaps much smaller folds). so i went for some heavier bamboo/silk that i had around. a little better but still, hardly and resist marks on the fabric- certainly not anything remotely recognizable as a butterfly. next i will try some t-shirt cotton and see how that goes. practice, practice, practice....
